Yamaha DX-100 – The Solid Bass Sound

My first Synth

December 1986. It was almost my birthday and I was litteraly eating the flyers from the synths of Yamaha and Roland. And yes…my dream came true…My parents gave me my first synthesizer for my birthday, a Yamaha DX-100. Yeah, lucky child, I know! I still own it and I will keep it, that’s for sure. The only issue I had with it is that I had to replace the soldered CR-2032 battery a few months ago, but hey…this was 31 years after it was bought. Besides the fact that I still have it, I also still use it and not only the Solid Bass sound but also other sounds that I’ve created. The sound of the DX-100 is crunchy and fits perfect in the music I play.

Back on topic. The title of this post is ‘The Solid Bass Sound’ because this sound is so damn famous. You can’t imagine in how many songs you hear this legendary Solid Bass sound. Something funny. Did you know that the anime figure Miku Hatsune has a print of the DX-100 on her arm sleeves? Quite a detail to see this vintage FM-synth on a modern anime 🙂
